Data shows significant spike in homelessness across Richmond region
New data released by Homeward, a regional organization coordinating homelessness services in Central Virginia, has revealed a significant spike in homelessness across the Richmond region. The data, collected during the summer of 2023, shows an 8.7% increase in the number of individuals experiencing homelessness compared to the previous year. The Point-in-Time Count conducted by Homeward identified 486 individuals experiencing homelessness, with a notable rise in unsheltered homelessness. This refers to individuals who stay outdoors, in cars, or other uninhabitable places.
