Hanover County launches new website for broadband updates

Hanover County has launched a new website to provide up-to-date information about the “Connect Hanover” project. The Connect Hanover initiative will provide access to broadband internet to all unserved areas in the County. The website link is connecthanover.com. On this website, citizens will find frequent updates to the plan and timeline for providing high-speed internet access to homes and businesses throughout Hanover. The website also contains information about the service provider All Points Broadband (APB). Here at connecthanover.com residents and businesses can find links to sign up for notifications from APB and register their locations for service.

“Connect Hanover” is a partnership between the County, APB, Dominion Energy Virginia, and Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC). Dominion and REC will provide “middle-mile” fiber capacity. APB will serve as the “last-mile” internet service provider and be responsible for providing fiber-to-the home service.

Total project cost is expected to be about $55 million to provide service to about 6200 homes. Most of the funding is private, with the balance provided by the County (funds through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)) and a State grant (Virginia Telecommunications Initiative (VATI)). It is expected to take about two years for all eligible addresses to be served.
