Chesterfield Public Library offers a variety of resources and services for residents of all ages. The library system provides not only traditional book lending but also digital content through platforms such as Libby and Hoopla, making it possible for patrons to access materials from various locations.

For young children, the library has educational videos, story times aimed at early literacy development, and the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge. Teens and students can use homework help services, research databases, and Makerspaces for school projects.

Adults have access to book discussion groups, genealogy support, and personalized reading recommendations through the MatchBook service. The Central Library features a Local History collection with yearbooks, city directories, and military records relevant to Chesterfield and nearby areas.

The library hosts events throughout the year including story times for preschoolers and virtual author talks. Many programs require advance registration while others are open to walk-ins.

Meeting spaces at each location are available free of charge for work or group gatherings. Additional services include passport assistance, notary public services, and learning support.

The library collaborates with county departments like Mental Health Support Services to provide free overdose medication (such as naloxone), test strips for fentanyl and other substances, medication disposal kits, gun locks, and books on recovery from opioid addiction.

“Volunteers and donors play a big role in making this possible, supporting programs that extend well beyond what tax dollars cover. For many, giving back through the library has become a meaningful way to support neighbors and strengthen the community.”

Residents can visit several branches throughout Chesterfield County. LaPrade Library is currently closed for renovations until winter 2025/2026.

Libraries serve as community hubs where people can find resources as well as opportunities to connect with others in their area.
