City of Richmond announces closures and service changes for Labor Day

City of Richmond government offices will be closed on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day. City Hall and other municipal offices are set to resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 2.

Trash, recycling, and bulk collection services managed by the Department of Public Works will not operate on Labor Day. All collections for the week will shift forward by one day, with Monday’s pickups occurring on Tuesday and continuing through Friday, September 6. The East Richmond Road Convenience Center landfill at 3800 East Richmond Road will also close from Saturday, August 30 through Monday, September 1, reopening on Tuesday, September 3.

Public libraries across Richmond will close for the holiday and reopen Tuesday. RVA311 customer service will be available on Saturday but closed Monday; self-service options remain accessible at RVA311.com and through its mobile apps.

Richmond Public Schools are closing both Friday, August 29 and Monday, September 1 for the holiday period. Classes are scheduled to resume on Tuesday.

The Parks and Recreation Department’s offices and community centers will not open Monday. However, city pools remain available from noon until 7:00 p.m.

The Department of Public Utilities Call Center is closed during the holiday; utility emergencies should be reported to 646-4646 (Option 1), while gas leaks require evacuation and a call to 911.

Richmond Animal Care and Control suspends operations on Labor Day as well but accepts appointments only on Tuesday before returning to standard hours Wednesday.
