Mark Earley Jr., a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, expressed concern about violence in the community and called for the apprehension of the offender following a local shooting. His statement was made on X.
“I hate to see this news today of violence in our community,” said Earley Jr., House Representative. “This Wawa is a normal spot for me to gas-up and stop in with the kids. I hope the offender is apprehended and prosecuted.”
According to WWBT NBC12, Chesterfield County has experienced several notable violent incidents in 2024 and 2025. These include a road-rage shooting in June 2025 that resulted in one person being hospitalized, as well as other high-profile gunfire events in local parks and neighborhoods. These incidents have intensified community demands for safety reforms.
Local news from the Richmond Times-Dispatch confirms that Chesterfield County recorded at least three significant shooting incidents over the past year. These include a road-rage shooting in June 2025, a park shooting in June, and an accidental shooting on June 24, all leading to gun-related injuries.
As reported by the Virginia State Police, the state’s violent crime rate rose from 194.4 per 100,000 people in 2021 to 203 per 100,000 in 2022. Aggravated assaults accounted for nearly 69% of violent incidents in 2023, indicating an uneven but upward trend over five years.
According to Ballotpedia, Earley has represented Virginia’s 73rd District in the House of Delegates since January 2024. He is a local attorney who has prioritized education, fiscal responsibility, and public safety in his legislative work.
