Henrico County Government has issued several public updates in early January 2026, including reminders about local tax regulations, community engagement programs, and firehouse construction milestones.
On January 5, 2026, Henrico County Government posted on its Twitter account: “Henrico is encouraging consumers to review their receipts after reports of businesses incorrectly charging a local tax on plastic bags. A 5-cent tax on disposable plastic bags took effect in Richmond on Jan. 1. Henrico has not approved such a tax.

The following day, the county highlighted an opportunity for residents to engage with local government through a multicultural initiative. On January 6, 2026, it stated: “Residents who reflect the area’s cultural diversity are encouraged to apply for My Henrico Academy, a program that strengthens bonds between the county & multicultural communities. Later that same day, Henrico County shared news about progress at one of its emergency service facilities: “An iron beam at the new Eastover Gardens Firehouse 6 will forever bear the signatures of Henrico firefighters and county officials.”
