Henrico County Government announced a series of updates this week, including the approval of a new budget for public schools, a warning about scam activity, and the arrival of a new business in the Fairfield District.
On April 15, Henrico County Government stated that “The Board of Supervisors approved a budget that provides millions in additional funding for Henrico County Public Schools, despite a drop in state aid for education. Supervisors challenged suggestions that the county isn’t sufficiently funding education.” The Henrico County Public Schools District is the only school district in Henrico County and enrolled 50,464 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to data from the Virginia Department of Education (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). During this period, Black students represented the largest ethnic group in Henrico County schools with 17,966 students (35.7% of enrollment), followed by white students with 16,066 (31.9%) (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). The total enrollment increased slightly by 0.1% compared to the previous year (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).
On April 16, Henrico County Government issued a warning regarding fraudulent activity: “A scam alert from Henrico’s Police Division and Department of Finance! To be clear, the county does NOT have a mystery shopper program.”
A day later on April 17, Board of Supervisors Chair Roscoe D. Cooper III commented on a new development project: “We are thrilled to welcome McConnell Golf to our county and look forward to working with them on shaping the future of this cherished community asset in the Fairfield District,” he said.
Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among all 68 schools in Henrico County during the 2023-24 school year with 2,039 students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Holladay Elementary School enrolled the largest number of pre-kindergarten students at 212, making up over 17% of all pre-K enrollments in the county (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home), while Tuckahoe Elementary School welcomed more kindergarteners than any other school with 113 students or about 3.3% of all kindergarten enrollments (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).
Henrico County continues to provide information and updates through its official channels as it addresses educational funding challenges and warns residents about potential scams.
