Henrico County Government announced on September 23, 2025, that the Board of Supervisors approved multiple resolutions, including a land acquisition from CSX and new transportation services.

In a post made on September 23, Henrico County Government stated, “The Board approved a resolution for the acquisition from CSX of about 65 acres & a 5-mile segment of the historic Kanawha Canal. The county also will acquire three bridges from CSX & assume maintenance of a fourth bridge on the property.” On the same day, it was further clarified that “Henrico will pay $1 for the property; the county plans to improve the bridges to enhance access for emergency vehicles and to use the property for recreational purposes.”

Additionally, another decision by the Board was highlighted: “The Board approved a resolution that allows Virgin Med Transportation Inc. to operate a medical transport service in the county.”

Henrico County is home to one public school district which enrolled over 50,000 students during the 2023-24 academic year, with Deep Run High School being its largest institution by enrollment. The student population in Henrico is diverse, with Black students making up approximately 35.7% and white students comprising nearly 32% during that period. Overall school enrollment has seen slight growth year-over-year.

The recent actions by Henrico County’s Board reflect ongoing efforts to expand infrastructure and public services while supporting community needs.
