Henrico County Government recently shared updates on recreational facilities and community events via their social media platform. The posts provide information about new developments in local parks and a successful Independence Day celebration.
On July 7, 2025, Henrico County Government announced that “Henrico now has a total of 44 pickleball courts at five parks and recreation sites: Pouncey Tract Park, The Springs Recreation Center, Hidden Creek Park, Sandston Recreation Area and Elko.” This expansion aims to accommodate the growing interest in pickleball within the community.
In another post on the same day, it was highlighted that “4 new pickleball courts are now ready for play at the Elko Recreation Area.” These courts were inaugurated with a ceremonial “first serve” by Supervisors Tyrone Nelson and Roscoe Cooper III. The addition was made possible by converting two existing tennis courts.
Two days later, on July 9, 2025, Henrico County Government expressed gratitude towards attendees of an Independence Day event by stating “It’s a wrap on another great Red, White & Lights! Thank you to everyone – all 6,600 of you!” The event took place at Crump Park on July 4th. They also encouraged residents to explore other summer activities through the Henrico Free for All program.
The county is also home to the Henrico County Public Schools District which enrolled over 50,000 students during the 2023-24 school year. Notably, Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among high schools in the district.
