Henrico County Government recently highlighted the achievements and stories of its centenarian residents, as well as provided information on sustainability initiatives in the community through a series of social media posts.

On September 25, 2025, Henrico County Government shared a resource for those interested in sustainable building practices: “For more information on the living building challenge, visit the International Living Future Institute website at https://t.co/ssIuDTK2Nq” (posted at 16:59 UTC).

Later that day, attention shifted to local longevity. In a post dated September 25, 2025 at 18:31 UTC, Henrico County Government wrote: “What’s the secret to reaching old age? Some local experts who have reached the 100 year mark credit things like spending time with family, prioritizing exercise and eating plenty of Oreo cookies. https://t.co/NLSAE1EN8f”

This theme continued in another post on September 25, 2025 at 18:33 UTC: “More than 130 residents in Henrico County have reached their 100th birthday, according to the Advocates for the Aging. Seventeen were honored at the county’s second Centenarian Celebration, which was held Sept. 22 at The Springs Recreation Center.”

Henrico County is home to a large and diverse population. During the 2023-24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools District enrolled over fifty thousand students (source). Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among all schools in the county during that period (source). Black students represented about one-third of total enrollment in Henrico schools during this time (source). Overall student numbers increased slightly from previous years (source), and Holladay Elementary School welcomed a significant portion of pre-kindergarten students within the district (source).

The celebration of centenarians underscores both Henrico’s commitment to honoring its senior residents and its focus on community engagement across generations.
