Henrico County Government shared a series of posts on August 26, 2025, highlighting the career and impact of Mr. Lancaster, a longtime coach for the Springers.
In its first post, Henrico County Government stated: “Mr. Lancaster coached the Springers from 1979 to 2016, leading the team to state titles in 2003 & 2007. His teams won 704 games over the course of his career. He was named state coach of the year twice & was selected for the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame in 2013.” (August 26, 2025)
A subsequent post included remarks from Nelson: “To his players, Coach Lancaster was a mentor and a father figure. He earned their admiration and respect while teaching sportsmanship, perseverance and teamwork. He believed a coach has the ability to see the very best in a person.” (August 26, 2025)
The third post featured recognition from local officials: “Photo: In 2016, the Board of Supervisors presented Mr. Lancaster a resolution, thanking him for his decades of service to the community and its young people.” (August 26, 2025)
Henrico County Public Schools District is responsible for all public schools in Henrico County and enrolled more than fifty thousand students during the 2023-24 school year (source). The district saw an increase in enrollment compared to previous years (source). Among these students, Black students made up approximately one-third of total enrollment (source). Deep Run High School had the highest individual school enrollment during this period (source).
Mr. Lancaster’s long tenure with Henrico’s student-athletes took place within one of Virginia’s largest public school districts.
