Henrico County Government provided updates on its financial status and recognized community members in a series of posts dated August 12, 2025.
In one post, the county shared details about its recent engagement with bond-rating agencies. According to Finance Director Sheila Minor, “Henrico agencies recently gave an extensive overview of its finances to bond-rating agencies, including a new fourth agency. Henrico is currently rated triple-AAA and is vying to be the country’s 3rd locality with four AAA ratings, Finance Director Sheila Minor said.” The pursuit of four AAA ratings places Henrico among a select group of localities nationally recognized for fiscal management.
Another announcement came from County Manager John Vithoulkas regarding the passing of Rick Valentine III. In the statement posted at 22:19 UTC, Vithoulkas stated, “County Manager John Vithoulkas announced that county flags will be lowered Friday in honor of Rick Valentine III, who served 46 years in the Police Division and recently passed. An Air Force veteran, he is survived by his wife Angela, three sons and other family.”
Additionally, Varina Supervisor Tyrone Nelson paid tribute to another community member. On August 12 at 22:19 UTC, Nelson said, “Varina Supervisor Tyrone Nelson recognized Mr. John M. Steele, who passed last week. He was a longtime Varina resident, business owner, civic leader & ‘a true community servant,’ Nelson said.”
Henrico County is home to a diverse school district serving over 50,000 students during the 2023-24 academic year according to state education data (source). Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among all schools in the county that year (source). Black students made up the largest ethnic group within Henrico County schools during this period (source), reflecting ongoing demographic changes in the area.
The announcements highlight both Henrico’s efforts toward financial distinction and its commitment to honoring individuals who have contributed significantly to public service and community life.
