Henrico County Government provided updates on July 30, 2025, regarding infrastructure improvements and a contained ammonia vapor discharge at the county’s Water Treatment Facility.
In a tweet posted at 12:49 p.m., Henrico County Government stated, “The trail, which accommodates a steady stream of dog walkers, joggers and other pedestrians, started with a gravel surface in 2010 and was paved in 2020. Now, @HenricoDPW_DPU is making more substantive improvements to enhance pedestrian safety and drainage.”
Later that day, the government reported an incident involving hazardous materials at the water facility. At 8:51 p.m., they wrote, “Units from the Henrico Division of Fire, including the division’s Hazmat team, have contained a discharge of ammonia vapor at the county’s Water Treatment Facility on Three Chopt Road. The discharge occurred during planned repairs by contractor employees.” In a follow-up post at 8:53 p.m., officials clarified the situation: “Officials report that the discharge was contained to an interior room of the WTF and did not pose an environmental concern or a health risk for residents or others in the area. The discharge also will not impact county water service, according to the @HenricoDPW_DPU.”
Henrico County is home to one public school district serving over 50,000 students as of the 2023-24 academic year. Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among its 68 schools during this period. Black students represented the largest ethnic group in Henrico County schools for that year. Enrollment figures increased slightly compared to previous years. Holladay Elementary School enrolled the largest number of pre-kindergarten students in Henrico County for 2023-24.
