Henrico County Government announced via social media that a public hearing will be held on August 12 regarding a measure before the Board of Supervisors. The Board is also considering an ordinance to align county code with recent changes in Virginia law.
On July 22, Henrico County Government posted, “A public hearing on the measure is scheduled for the Aug. 12 Board meeting.” In a subsequent post on the same day, the government stated, “The Board is considering a second ordinance aligning county code with July 1 changes in Virginia law. The ordinance would update a list of eligible properties & property owners for the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy Financing programs.” A third post reiterated, “A public hearing on the measure is scheduled for the Aug. 12 Board meeting.”
These developments come as Henrico County continues to manage growth and policy updates across various sectors. For example, Henrico County Public Schools District enrolled over 50,000 students during the 2023-24 school year, making it one of Virginia’s larger districts (source). The district has seen steady enrollment increases and diverse student demographics: Black students comprised about 35.7% of total enrollment while white students made up approximately 31.9% (source). Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among high schools in the county during this period (source).
The proposed ordinance discussed by Henrico’s Board seeks to bring local regulations into compliance with statewide legal changes effective July 1 and aims to expand eligibility for clean energy financing programs within commercial properties.
