Henrico County Government announced on July 22, 2025, that its Board has approved a resolution to apply for matching grants from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s revenue sharing program, aiming to fund a new roadway project scheduled for fiscal year 2029-30.

In its first post at 23:52 UTC, the county stated: “The Board has approved a resolution authorizing the county to apply for matching grants from the revenue sharing program of the Virginia Dept of Transportation. If awarded, the county aims to use the grants for a new roadway project in fiscal 2029-30.” The announcement was followed by clarification at 23:52 UTC that “The state grants would match 50% of county costs up to $10M.”

Additionally, Henrico County Government reported at 23:55 UTC that “The Board has approved a resolution amending a contract by an additional $899K for engineering design services for Three Chopt Road improvements. The current contract value for the project is $3.6M.”

Henrico County is home to one public school district serving over 50,000 students during the 2023-24 academic year. Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment among local schools with more than 2,000 students enrolled during this period (source). Black students made up about one-third of all enrollees in Henrico County schools in that year (source). Overall student numbers increased slightly compared to previous years (source).

The proposed transportation projects and related funding measures occur alongside steady growth and demographic shifts within Henrico County’s school system.
