Henrico County Government has shared a series of tweets honoring the contributions and legacy of Mary Hayes Mule’, a registered nurse who served at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital for 37 years. The posts highlight her dedication and impact on the community, as well as the recent resolution passed by the Board in her memory.

On June 10, 2025, Henrico County Government announced that “The Board has approved a resolution recognizing the selfless service of Mary Hayes Mule’, a registered nurse & fixture of the emergency room at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital for 37 years. Mrs. Mule’ died earlier this spring.” This recognition comes after her passing earlier in the year.

In another tweet posted on June 10, it was noted that “Mrs. Mule’s family is joining Board Chair Dan Schmitt for the remembrance.” This event serves to commemorate Mrs. Mule’s enduring contributions to healthcare and her community.

Further highlighting her achievements, Henrico County Government shared that “Richmond’s first forensic nurse, Mrs. Mule’ – known affectionately as Mother Mary — was acclaimed for her expertise & compassion in working with victims of sexual assault and founded the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program at the hospital.” Her pioneering work established critical support services for victims of sexual assault.

This recognition takes place within a community context where education also plays a significant role. During the 2023-24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools District enrolled over 50,000 students across various schools such as Deep Run High School and Holladay Elementary School. The diverse student population included significant numbers from different ethnic backgrounds contributing to an inclusive educational environment.
