Trash collection and bulk or brush pickup services will not operate on New Year’s Day. These services will resume on Friday for those whose regular collection falls on Thursday.

The East Richmond Road Convenience Center (ERRCC) Landfill at 3800 East Richmond Road will also be closed for the holiday and is set to reopen the following day.

Recycling collections managed by CVWMA are delayed by one day due to the holiday. Residents can expect recycling pickup on Friday instead of Thursday. Updates are available at cvwma.com.

Richmond Public Library branches plan to close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, and remain closed through Thursday. Libraries will reopen on Friday, January 2.

RVA311 customer service will not be available by phone or in person during the holiday but remains accessible online and via its mobile app around the clock.

Richmond Public Schools are currently observing winter break from December 22 through January 2, with classes resuming Monday, January 5. RPS offices will be closed only on New Year’s Day and reopen Friday.

All offices and community centers under the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities are closed for recreational activities on January 1 but will return to normal schedules the next day.

The Department of Public Utilities Call Center is closed for routine matters during the holiday. Customers facing utility emergencies should call 804-646-4646 and select Option 1; gas leaks require immediate evacuation and a call to 911.

Richmond Animal Care and Control facilities are also closed for New Year’s Day but plan to reopen with regular walk-in hours on Friday.

A full list of city holiday closures can be found online at the city’s holiday closings web page.
