Richmond announces closure of city buildings ahead of inclement weather

All City of Richmond buildings will be closed on Monday, December 8, due to expected severe weather. Some city services will remain available online.

Residents are advised to check go.rva.gov/winter-weather for updates and to follow the city’s social media channels for information about city operations. They are also encouraged to monitor reliable sources such as the National Weather Service for current weather conditions.

To provide shelter for those most at risk, the city’s Inclement Weather Shelter at 1900 Chamberlayne Avenue, operated by the Salvation Army, will continue to operate as needed depending on weather conditions.

The city urges residents to sign up for Richmond Ready Alerts in order to receive emergency and weather notifications from the City of Richmond. To sign up, residents can text ‘RVAREADY’ to 888-777 or visit rva.gov/richmondreadyalerts.
