The City of Richmond’s Department of Finance has completed the distribution of real estate tax bills to mortgage lenders. For those whose lenders typically manage this payment, no further action is necessary. Taxpayers who handle their own payments should ensure they pay by June 16.
Lenders generally remit payment to the city within a week after receiving the bill. Taxpayers are advised to confirm payment with their lender within 10-14 days.
In cases where both the taxpayer and the lender have paid the current year’s bill, refunds can be requested from the Department of Finance. The process involves visiting rva311.com, navigating through the “Real Estate Taxes” section, and submitting a refund request form. Assistance is available via a call to 311 for any difficulties encountered in this process.
Mayor Danny Avula announced plans to engage an external expert for reviewing the Department of Finance’s procedures. Impacted taxpayers will receive updates directly through mail or email at the earliest opportunity.
