The City of Richmond is organizing an E-Cycle Day event on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1710 Robin Hood Road. This initiative is led by the Department of Public Works, the Clean City Commission, and the Department of Public Utilities. The event is created to encourage city residents to recycle electronics and paper, keeping hazardous waste from entering city waterways, streams, and rivers. For participation, proof of city residency is required, and only non-commercial items will be accepted.

The E-Cycle Day is structured as a drive-thru event with volunteers available to assist in unloading items from vehicles. Residents can bring up to five boxes of documents for shredding, though they must remove binders, staples, and clips beforehand.

Various fees will apply to the disposal of electronics such as computer systems, televisions, and other electronic devices. For detailed information on fees and specific electronics, the city advises visiting their website at www.rva.gov/public-works/clean-city-commission.

Residents can also drop off household hazardous waste items, including pesticides, oil-based paints, and certain herbicides. However, latex and water-based paints will not be collected; they can be dried and disposed of with regular trash.

Further information about recycling and event specifics is available on the Richmond Clean City Commission website or via email at AskPublicWorks@rva.gov. The Department of Public Works (DPW), a publicly funded body, provides various city services such as recycling, trash collection, and urban forestry. The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) supplies utility services such as natural gas and water to over 500,000 customers and manages electric street lighting across Richmond.

The departments encourage residents to follow event updates on Twitter @DPW_RichmondVA.
