In Richmond, Virginia, the city has introduced a new web-based progress tracker to provide real-time updates on the overhaul of its purchasing card (p-card) program. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the city’s financial management practices.

The p-card program is undergoing a comprehensive restructuring to align with industry best practices while focusing on fiscal responsibility and public trust. Mayor Danny Avula emphasized the importance of government accountability, stating, “We know that government accountability must be earned, every day.” He explained that instead of merely pausing the program, the city is committed to rebuilding it into a more robust and transparent system that better serves Richmond.

The newly launched tracker will serve as a centralized source for all news related to the program’s redevelopment. It will feature announcements, press releases, and status updates on various reform processes such as recruitment efforts for new personnel, policy updates, and training material revisions.

Rene Almaraz, Director of the Department of Procurement Services, highlighted the measures being implemented in the revamped p-card program: “The new p-card program will have rigorous guardrails, comprehensive user training, and clear lines of accountability.” He noted that this tracker adds another layer of transparency as they work towards improvements.

Residents can access the progress tracker at https://www.rva.gov/procurement-services/p-card-progress.
