Richmond maintains stable water pressure after main break

Yesterday, a water main break occurred at 7th and Canal Streets in Richmond, Virginia, leading to reduced water flow into the Church Hill Tank. The City of Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities (DPU) scheduled an overnight repair during low-demand hours to minimize customer impact.

The DPU determined that a permanent repair would affect residents of Richmond and Henrico County. To address this, DPU coordinated with Henrico County to ensure adequate water levels were maintained in storage tanks and that regional service remained uninterrupted.

Thanks to the proactive efforts by DPU staff, the plan was effectively implemented, maintaining safe water pressure throughout the distribution system overnight. Water service remains stable for residents today.

The permanent repair is expected early next week. DPU has planned the timing with Henrico County to avoid impacting regional service and allow time for appropriate water storage planning for Henrico County customers.

DPU will continue working with regional partners to ensure the region’s water supply remains safe.
