Mayor Danny Avula of Richmond, Virginia, has nominated Odie Donald II for the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the city. Donald currently serves as Chief of Staff to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. His nomination follows a five-month national search initiated after Mayor Avula assumed office on January 1.

“Odie Donald is a talented and experienced public administrator with a compelling life story that speaks to Richmond’s highest aspirations,” said Mayor Avula. He emphasized Donald’s belief in effective public management and his combination of strong management skills and compassion.

Donald expressed his honor at being nominated, stating, “Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about building strong, effective teams that truly deliver for residents.” He looks forward to working with Richmond’s City staff and Council to foster economic development and improve infrastructure.

Donald brings nearly two decades of executive experience in municipal government. He has held leadership roles across Georgia, including serving as City Administrator for South Fulton and Augusta-Richmond County. In these roles, he managed significant funds and led major initiatives.

Community leaders have expressed support for Donald’s nomination. Brian Anderson from ChamberRVA praised his leadership and collaborative spirit. Tanya González noted the value of his experience in diverse municipal governments. Rev. Donté McCutchen highlighted Donald’s dedication to public service.

Robert Bobb from Robert Bobb Group, LLC commented on the national interest in the CAO position and stated that Donald’s nomination reflects a strong match between the city’s needs and an experienced leader.

The expedited resolution for Donald’s appointment will be introduced at the June 9 City Council meeting, with a proposed start date of July 9.
