The City of Richmond has announced the opening of applications for the fourth cohort of the Richmond Resilience Initiative (RRI) Guaranteed Basic Income Program. This program offers eligible residents $500 monthly for 24 months, without any conditions.

Initiated in 2020 by the Office of Community Wealth Building (OCWB) and the Robins Foundation, the RRI aims to alleviate financial instability among working families. The initiative is part of a national movement that includes Mayors for a Guaranteed Income, established by former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs. This movement advocates for direct, unrestricted cash assistance to help families gain financial independence and reduce stress.

The current cohort targets single parents, including guardians with custody, stepparents, foster parents, and primary caregivers. Participants in previous cohorts have used their funds to meet essential needs, pay off debts, invest in education, and stabilize their family situations.

Mayor Danny Avula emphasized Richmond’s commitment to its residents: “In Richmond, we believe everyone has a right to thrive, not just survive. The Richmond Resilience Initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to creating a city where families have the stability and support they need to build a better future. This is about trust, dignity, and ensuring our residents have the resources to move forward with confidence.”

Richmond residents can apply by visiting go.rva.gov/rri-2025 until June 30, 2025. For additional information or inquiries, contact rri@rva.gov.
