The Department of Public Works in Richmond, Virginia, is set to commence construction work next week on Overbrook Road at the intersections with Tazewell Street and Fendall Avenue. The project involves replacing old traffic signal equipment with all-way stop controls.

Starting the week of June 30, traffic control signals will switch to an “all red flashing pattern for one week,” while new all-way stop signs will be installed on all approaches. In the following week, beginning July 7, the removal of traffic control signals will start, weather permitting. This phase will include intermittent lane closures.

Once the removal of signals and associated equipment is complete, all-way stop signs will manage traffic at these intersections. Guidelines for drivers include coming to a complete stop even if no other vehicles are visible and always stopping for pedestrians crossing the street. The first vehicle to arrive and stop should proceed first; if two or more vehicles arrive simultaneously, the driver on the right has priority.

Motorists are urged to give extra space to construction workers and slow down when approaching work zones marked by orange cones.
