The City of Richmond is taking steps to prepare for potential flooding due to anticipated heavy rainfall. The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has dispatched crews to inspect and clear storm drains in areas known for drainage issues. Additional signage for flood-prone streets is ready to be deployed if necessary.
Residents and businesses are urged to keep storm drains free from debris, as blocked inlets can lead to localized flooding and property damage even during minor rain events. The Department of Public Works (DPW) is coordinating the deployment of signage in areas at risk of flooding, although the Magnolia Street flood gate is currently not operational. Bainbridge Street flood gates remain functional.
Emergency Services Operations teams, along with Urban Forestry, Traffic, and Maintenance crews, are on standby through the night. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities (PRCF) will monitor levels in the James River, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
City departments receive regular weather updates and continue coordinated response efforts to protect public infrastructure and community well-being.
