Richmond Public Schools has announced its policy for providing free meals to all students through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. The division stated that each school and the central school nutrition office have copies of the policy available for review by interested parties.

All schools in the division will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a program established under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Under CEP, students at participating schools will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge to their households. Families are not required to submit meal application forms to access these meals. Each household will receive a letter with details about the program and contact information for questions.

Shannon Ebron, School Nutrition Services Director, is available to answer questions about the program. She can be reached at (804) 780-8216 or by email at schoolnutrition@rvaschools.net.

Program information may be provided in languages other than English. Individuals with disabilities who need alternative communication methods should contact either the state or local agency administering the program or USDA’s TARGET Center at (202)720-2600 (voice and TTY), or use the Federal Relay Service at (800)877-8339.

To file a complaint regarding discrimination in this program, individuals should complete Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form. This form can be obtained online, from any USDA office, by calling (866)632-9992, or by writing a letter including their name, address, telephone number, and a description of the alleged discriminatory action. Complaints can be submitted by mail to U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, 1400 Independence Ave., SW Washington, D.C. 20250-9410; by fax to (833)256-1665 or (202)690-7442; or by email to program.intake@usda.gov.

The institution states it is an equal opportunity provider.

“In accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.”
