Richmond, VA – The City of Richmond has received a Notice of Alleged Violation (NOAV) from the Virginia Department of Health regarding a localized Boil Water Advisory (BWA) that occurred in May 2025. This advisory affected customers in certain areas of the city’s distribution network.

Upon discovering the operational issue that led to clogged filters and impacted water production, city officials and the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) took immediate steps to ensure effective communication and coordination with both the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and regional partners. The DPU has worked to reinforce procedures for maintenance, operations, and communication. These measures include addressing recommendations outlined in the NOAV, which VDH acknowledges have either been addressed or are being committed to by the city. The DPU will continue evaluating potential enhancements.

The City remains dedicated to collaborating with VDH and regional partners to fulfill its mission of providing safe and clean drinking water to the region.
