The City of Richmond Department of Social Services (DSS) will reopen its offices to the public at a new location, 300 E. Franklin Street, starting January 15, 2026. The move consolidates all five branches of the agency into one building, aiming to improve staff efficiency and coordination for residents seeking assistance.

Shunda Giles, Director of the Department of Social Services, said, “This new space allows us to better serve the Richmond community by streamlining operations and creating a more collaborative environment for our staff. By housing our teams together, we are strengthening our ability to connect residents to the resources and support they need in a more timely and effective way.”

Chief Administrative Officer Odie Donald commented on the citywide benefits: “This transition reflects the City’s commitment to improving access and the overall customer experience for residents seeking essential services. By investing in this centralized, modern workspace, DSS will be better positioned to meet the needs of Richmonders.”

Residents can continue accessing many DSS programs online or by phone. More information is available at www.rva.gov/social-services or by calling (804) 646-7212.
