The City of Richmond has begun distributing real estate rebate checks to eligible property owners who held ownership in 2024. The Department of Finance plans to complete the mailing process by June 30, 2025. According to city officials, checks will be sent to the address currently on file with the Department of Finance. Eligible residents are not required to take any further action and should expect their checks by early July, depending on postal delivery times.

City authorities have noted that rebate checks listing payee names longer than 35 characters may encounter processing delays at some financial institutions. This limitation is common in many check-printing systems, and the city is informing residents proactively about potential reprocessing needs.

For those with questions regarding eligibility, address updates, or issues with cashing their checks, the city advises contacting RVA311 by dialing 3-1-1 within city limits or submitting a ticket online at rva311.com.

A previous issue delayed the mailing of some rebate checks when incorrect payee information was printed as “Hartshorn Community Council.” This error necessitated a verification process before continuing distribution.

The rebate initiative was approved by City Council in 2024 as a measure to provide financial relief amid increasing property values and housing costs.
