Hanover County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on June 1.
We officially wish Major David Vermeer a #HappyRetirement! Major Vermeer is a U.S. Army veteran and began his career with HCSO in 1994. Prior to his promotion to sergeant in 1999, Major Vermeer served in patrol and as the first range officer for the newly opened Hanover County Sheriff's Office Firearms Range. As a sergeant, he served in patrol and the Administrative Division until his promotion to Lieutenant where he was placed in charge of the Training and Personnel Units.
In 2006, Vermeer transferred to the Investigative Division where he served as the Narcotics Unit lieutenant. In 2009, he was promoted to Captain and served as a Division Commander in the Uniform Patrol Division. In 2014, he was once again transferred, this time to the Investigative Division to oversee the General, Vice/Narcotics and Street Crime Units.
Finally, Major Vermeer was elevated to the rank of Major and most recently oversaw the Uniform Patrol Division. Major Vermeer graduated from numerous leadership schools to include the FBI National Academy Session #220. Major Vermeer will certainly be missed but we wish him well in his retirement.
