Goochland County Fire-Rescue issued the following announcement on June 11.
Chief Dillard E. Ferguson is pleased to announce one Battalion Chief Promotion effective July 1, 2021.
Battalion Chief Blake H. Markey
Battalion Chief Markey is very deserving of this recognition and has prepared himself well over many years for this promotion. He has almost 18 years of service as a Firefighter EMT with the Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue & Emergency Services. He joined the department in 2003 as volunteer and in 2004 he was one the first Lifeline contract employees assigned to Goochland County, providing supplemental ambulance staffing. In 2008, he became a career Firefighter/EMT with Albemarle County Fire & Rescue Department and worked there for the next 8 years while remaining a volunteer with our department. In 2014, he returned to Goochland as a career Firefighter/EMT and advanced to Crew Leader, Lieutenant, and Captain. For the last four years he has served in the capacity of the “County Staff 1” administrative officer. Battalion Chief Markey has demonstrated positive and effective leadership both within and outside of Goochland County and is well respected by his peers.
