Goochland County issued the following announcement on July 28
On Tuesday evening, July 27th a sewer line break occurred in Goochland County along River Road near the Henrico County border. The break led to the closure of River Road for several hours before it reopened around midnight.
County utility customers were not impacted by the break and no service disruption occurred.
Representatives from Goochland County Department of Public Utilities, Henrico County Department of Public Utilities, Goochland County Fire-Rescue, Goochland County Sheriff’s Office, Henrico County Division of Fire, Henrico County Police, and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) all responded to the scene and break. All pertinent local and state agencies were notified about the break including the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality who also responded to the scene.
Citizens can expect to see a Department of Public Utilities contractor making repairs to the line over the next couple days. During the repairs sewer services for county utility customers will not be impacted.
VDOT and Goochland County have closed a section of River Road (Route 650) in Goochland to allow the contractor to complete the emergency utility repair project. Weather permitting, the closure is expected to be in place until 6 p.m. Friday, July 30.
The closure is located near the Henrico County line. Drivers are advised to use the following detour route:
From Goochland County – Take Blair Rd. (Rt. 649) north to Patterson Ave. (Rt. 6) east to Gaskins Rd. south back to River Rd.
From Henrico County – Take Gaskins Rd. north to Patterson Ave. (Rt. 6) west to Blair Rd. (Rt. 649) south back to River Rd.
Goochland County apologizes for the inconvenience citizens experienced during the break, repairs, and road closure. The county and our contractors are working to restore the area to like new conditions and reopen River Road as soon as possible.
