Town of Blacksburg issued the following announcement on September 28.
Caldwell March, Oct. 2
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will use a portion of the Huckleberry Trail for a 13-mile march between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2. Cadets will be using the trail between the library and Heritage Park. At the conclusion of the march, Skipper, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets cannon, will be fired several times from Upper Quad twice between 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. Actual times depend on how long the march takes subject to weather and road conditions.
Homecoming Parade, Oct. 15
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets cannon will be fired twice the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 15, as cadets march a pass in review on the Drillfield in honor of Virginia Tech’s homecoming. The event begins at 3:30 p.m. Skipper will be fired at the first note of the National Anthem and the first note of “Tech Triumph.” There will be two shots total.
Formal Retreat, Oct. 22
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will hold a formal retreat ceremony at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, on Upper Quad. The Color Guard will lower the flag, and the regimental band, the Highty-Tighties, will play. Skipper, the corps cannon, will fire once.
