Randolph-Macon College issued the following announcement on Dec. 1
Randolph-Macon senior running back Justin DeLeon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) was named the J. Stokeley Fulton Offensive Player of the Year, while senior defensive tackle Jace DePriest (Richmond, Va./Varina) was voted the Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year as well as the ODAC/ Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete for football as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its football award winners.
The Yellow Jackets had 15 players recognized. Those selected All-ODAC First Team were DeLeon, DePriest, senior tight end Tim Hanratty (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), senior offensive lineman Connor Denning (Benson, N.C./West Johnston), senior offensive lineman Will Jackson (Biscoe, N.C./East Montgomery), senior kicker Chris Vidal (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest), senior defensive lineman Tyler DeBerry (Greensboro, N.C./Page) and senior defensive back Stephen Richardson (Richmond, Va./Varina). Second-team members included punter Vidal, junior center Matt Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd), junior offensive lineman Nehemiah Nixon (Garner, N.C./Garner), senior defensive lineman Jacob Hutchinson (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and senior linebacker Matt Vergara (Chesterfield, Va./Benedictine). Those on Third Team included junior wide receiver David Wallis (Cedar Point, N.C./Croatan), tight end Ricky Mayfield (Goochland, Va./Goochland) and senior linebacker Erik Harris (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield).
DePriest was second on the team with 34 tackles. He led the R-MC defense with 11 tackles for loss (minus-46 yards). DePriest was second on the team with 3.5 quarterback sacks (minus-25 yards). He forced two fumbles, recovered one fumble and had one pass breakup. DePriest had a season-high eight solo tackles in the win over Emory & Henry. DePriest was an Academic All-District selection and is on the ballot for Academic All-America.
DeLeon led the ODAC with 100.5 rushing yards per game, 15 rushing touchdowns, 16 total touchdowns and 96 points. At the end of the regular season, DeLeon was 17th in the nation with 15 rushing touchdowns as well as 22nd in the country with 16 total touchdowns and 96 points. DeLeon started all 10 games. He had season highs with 20 carries and 202 rushing yards in a 34-31 victory over Emory & Henry.
Hanratty had eight catches for 155 yards and one touchdown. Mayfield had eight catches in eight games for 115 yards with a long of 43. Hanratty, Mayfield, Denning, Jackson, Hale and Nixon worked on a offensive line for a team that at the end of the regular season was second in the nation in time of possession at 34:58, fourth in fewest sacks allowed at 0.60 per game, sixth in fourth down conversion percentage at 0.773, 10th in tackles for loss allowed at 3.30, 14th in rushing offense at 251.7, 19th in total offense at 451.4 and 19th in scoring offense at 41.3. Denning is a five-time All-ODAC selection. Jackson is a three-time All-ODAC First Team pick. Nixon is a two-time All-ODAC honoree.
Vidal hit 12 of 15 field goals (80%). At the end of the regular season, he was sixth in the nation with 1.20 field goals per game and ninth in field goal percentage. He hit a career-long 49-yard field goal in a win at Ferrum. Vidal was 48-48 on PATs. He was second on the team and second in the ODAC in scoring with 84 points. Vidal averaged 46.8 yards per punt. At the end of the regular season, R-MC led the nation in net punting at 41.05. Vidal had 172 career PATs, the top number in program and ODAC history. He had 34 career field goals, the second-highest amount in ODAC and program history. Vidal is a two-time All-ODAC First Team selection.
DeBerry led the team with 55 tackles and 38 solo stops. He paced the Yellow Jacket defense with four quarterback sacks (minus-30 yards) and was second with 7.5 tackles for loss (minus-37 yards). DeBerry forced one fumble. He led the team with a season-high 11 tackles and eight solo stops in a season-ending win over Hampden-Sydney. DeBerry is a two-time All-ODAC First Team honoree.
Richardson started all 10 games. He had 22 tackles, including 19 solo stops. Richardson led the team and was second in the ODAC with four interceptions. He had four pass breakups and one tackle for loss. Richardson is a two-time All-ODAC selection.
Hutchinson had 22 tackles and 12 solo stops. He had 5.5 tackles for loss (minus-22 yards) and 2.5 quarterback sacks (minus-16 yards). Hutchinson had a pair of pass breakups.
Vergara was fifth on the team with 30 tackles and had 16 solo tackles. He had three tackles for loss. Vergara had one interception that was returned for 19 yards. He had one pass breakup. Vergara is a three-time All-ODAC pick.
Wallis had 24 receptions for 507 yards and five touchdowns in nine games. He was seventh in the ODAC with 56.3 receiving yards per game. Wallis was 20th in the nation with 21.1 yards per catch. He had 11 kickoff returns for 266 yards, an average of 24.2 yards per return with a long of 44. Wallis is a two-time All-ODAC honoree.
Harris was fourth on the team with 33 tackles and had 25 solo stops. He had two interceptions for eight yards and had two pass breakups. Harris had four tackles for loss (minus-26 yards) and a pair of quarterback sacks (minus-22 yards).
Under head coach Pedro Arruza, Randolph-Macon posted a 9-1 overall record and 5-1 ODAC mark, tying for the top spot in the conference.
