Virginia Union University Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec. 24
Virginia Union University's Savion Hopes and Jefferson Souza have been selected to play in the HBCU Legacy Bowl, to be played at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, in New Orleans, La.
Hopes, a graduate student from Detroit, Mi., anchored an offensive line which allowed VUU runners to rush for 1,831 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season.
Hopes was also named Second Team All-CIAA this past season.
Souza, a graduate student kicker from Deerfield Beach, Fla., was second on the Panthers in scoring with 47 points. He hit 32 of 35 extra points and had five field goals. Souza's 146 career extra points is second only to Robert Timmons' 171 PATs.
"This game allows a great opportunity for both of these guys to show professional league scouts their talents," said VUU Head Football Coach and Associate Athletic Director Dr. Alvin Parker. "Both have this opportunity and I'm extremely proud of them both."
The HBCU Legacy Bowl will be broadcast live on the NFL Network on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from New Orleans, La.
