Randolph-MacOn College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 7
The Randolph-Macon baseball team will tackle another challenging schedule in 2022, including nine contests against 2021 NCAA Regional participants as well as a date with defending national champion Salisbury.
"We are excited at the idea of getting a full assortment of quality non-conference opponents on the schedule again," head coach Ray Hedrick said. "We hope our ability to play 20 games against some of the premiere programs in the country will prepare us to succeed within our highly competitive conference."
Those opponents on R-MC's schedule who appeared in the 2021 NCAA Tournament include Lynchburg, Marymount, NC Wesleyan, Salisbury, Tufts and York (Pa.). Other strong opponents, some of whom have appeared in recent NCAA Regionals, include Alvernia, Christopher Newport, Messiah, Methodist, Roanoke, Shenandoah and Virginia Wesleyan.
The Yellow Jackets will open the regular season with a three-game home series against Pitt-Bradford on Feb. 19-20. R-MC will head to NC Wesleyan on Feb. 22 before hosting Alvernia in a doubleheader on Feb. 26.
March begins with a road trip to Marymount on the second before a three-game home set with Messiah on March 4-5. The Yellow Jackets play at Mary Washington on March 8 and at Christopher Newport on March 10 before ODAC play begins at Washington and Lee with a doubleheader on March 12.
R-MC hosts Guilford in conference games on March 19-20 before a league contest at defending champion Lynchburg on March 23. The Yellow Jackets welcome Tufts on March 26-27 before an ODAC contest at Virginia Wesleyan on March 29. The month concludes with a trip to Salisbury on March 31.
The Yellow Jackets host Dugout Club Day on April 2 with an ODAC doubleheader against Bridgewater. R-MC will entertain NC Wesleyan on April 5 and Hampden-Sydney on April 6 before a conference twinbill at Shenandoah on April 9. The Yellow Jackets welcome Lynchburg on April 12 before a road trip to York (Pa.) on April 14.
R-MC hosts Roanoke in an ODAC doubleheader on April 16 before travelling to Hampden-Sydney on April 20. The Yellow Jackets entertain Mary Washington on April 21 before Eastern Mennonite comes to town for a conference doubleheader on April 23 for Senior Day. R-MC hosts Virginia Wesleyan on April 26 before a twinbill at Ferrum on April 30.
The regular season concludes with a home contest against Christopher Newport on May 3.
Under head coach Ray Hedrick, the Yellow Jackets were 23-11 overall in 2021. R-MC was 18-4 in ODAC play, winning the regular-season crown for the third straight season. The Yellow Jackets were nationally ranked throughout the 2021 season.
