27

Randolph-MacOn College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 29

Randolph-Macon used a dominating mid-game run to take down hosting Ferrum in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday evening. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Panthers 34-9 during the second and third quarters.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 67, Ferrum 47

Venue: Swartz Gymnasium

Records: Randolph-Macon 11-4, 9-1 ODAC; Ferrum 5-14, 3-9 ODAC

How It Happened

  • A hot shooting Ferrum squad came out firing out of the gates and attacking the basket. The hosts jumped out to a 19-10 advantage, but the Yellow Jackets were able to close the frame on a 10-5 run to climb back into the game. Triples by Juliana Park (Fr., Fairfax Station, Va. / Davidson Day) and Cheridan Hatfield (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) helped swing momentum in favor of R-MC as the first quarter came to a close.
  • Hatfield eventually tied the game on two consecutive possessions. The first time was on another 3-pointer before a layup on a dish from Park put both teams even at 26-all. Aimee DeBell (Sr., Studley, Va. / St. Gertrude) eventually put the Lemon and Black on top for good with a jumper that made the score 30-28. It sparked a 15-1 Randolph-Macon run that extended into the third quarter. At the half, the Jackets held a 35-29 advantage.
  • The third quarter helped the Jackets put the game out of reach. Hatfield and Park added a pair of triples sandwiched around a Becca Anthony (Sr., Amelia, Va. / Amelia) layup to open the half before Ferrum eventually scored its first field goal in almost 10 minutes on a Cameron Hawkins jumper. The Jackets limited the Panthers to just two baskets in the third as they outscored Ferrum 19-4 en route to the victory.
Inside The Numbers

  • Catheine Kagey (So., Roanoke, Va. / Faith Christian) scored the final basket of the first quarter. Her next basket came with 7:11 to go in the fourth. Including those baskets, the Jackets outscored the Panthers 44-11 over that stretch, a time span of 23:05.
  • Hatfield took home game high honors with 16 points. She hit a season-best four 3-pointer on seven attempts and finished the game 6-of-12 overall. DeBell joined her in double figures with 10 points.
  • Haley Pasqualone (Jr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudoun Valley) came off the bench to lead the game with 10 rebounds. She helped the Yellow Jackets outrebound the Panthers 48-29 in the contest.
  • Five of Pasqualone's caroms directly led to eight second chance points for R-MC. Overall Randolph-Macon outscored Ferrum 28-0 in second chance points.
  • Twelve different players found the scoring column for the Yellow Jackets. The Lemon and Black's bench outscored the Panthers' 22-3.
