Randolph-MacOn College Athletics issued the following announcement on Feb. 28
A week after being named ODAC Softball Pitcher of the Week, Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va. / New Kent) has successfully defended her accolades after another tremendous showing in the circle for Randolph-Macon. The freshman standout opened up Saturday with a no-hitter and pitched the Yellow Jackets to another win in a spot-start previously unscheduled game later that evening.
The day started with Randolph-Macon up against Marymount, and while the Lemon and Black bats provided more than enough run support, not much was needed as a result of Ellis' dominance in the circle. She struck out 12 in the game in just five innings of work, surpassing her total of 10 in the season opener the week before.
Twice she totaled three in an inning as she punched out of the third and fourth frames. She helped her own cause from the plate as well where she went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
With weather cancelling the previously scheduled Sunday games, a decision was made to play Denison for a third game Saturday. Ellis was called on to start and followed up with nine more strikeouts to give her 21 and 12.25 strikeouts per seven inning mark.
So far on the young season Ellis leads the nation with two shutouts on the season and is 10th nationally with 12.8 strikeouts per seven innings.
Ellis and the Yellow Jackets will be back in action with a six-game week at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Georgia.
