How It Happened
- The Shoremen actually got on the scoreboard first with a Brady McFalls strike just over four minutes into the contest, but it was the Yellow Jackets dominating the rest of the period that set the tone for the game. Ryan Pritchard (So., Crofton, Md. / DeMatha) scored the equalizer before Averna scored the go-ahead goal on a helper from Brandon Smith (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman).
- Derek Marsilio (Sr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt), Brandon Smith, and a pair of Averna goals closed the frame with the Lemon and Black up 5-1. The Shoremen regained ground with three goals to start the second, but Marsilio scored his second of the day to send the Jackets up 6-4 at the break.
- Averna scored again to open up the second half. He actually bookended the frame with another goal to close out the quarter with the Jackets up 9-5.
- Cooper Hauser (Fr., Charlottesville, Va. / Monticello) started off a strong 3-1 run to open the fourth for the Lemon and Black. His first goal of the year gave the hosts a 10-5 lead. Averna and Jack Smith (So., Stevensville, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) added goals later in the frame to help keep the Jackets ahead.
- Averna has now scored 18 goals on the year with at least three in each of the last four games.
- Although Andrew Tiffey (Sr., Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) didn't score a goal, he was pivotal in setting up the offense and dished out season-best three assists on the night.
- Gage Turner (Fr., Spartansburg, S.C. / Providence Day) was spectacular between the pipes as he picked up the win with 14 saves on 42 shots faced.
- JD Spotts (So., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate) had a big night in the circle as he went 14-for-23 on faceoffs.
- Brandon Smith led the team with four ground balls.
The Jackets will host Randolph Saturday afternoon at 1.
