The No. 6 Randolph-Macon softball team was originally scheduled to play Stevenson on Thursday afternoon, but Mother Nature has played her hand once again. No bother for the Yellow Jackets and Mustangs though as they will now play Wednesday at 2 p.m.

These two teams last met just before the pandemic put a stop to the season. For the Yellow Jackets, it was seventh and eighth games of the season. For the Mustangs, the road trip to Ashland started the season and saw them play just two more games in their campaign. The opening game saw Stevenson squeeze out a 3-2 win, while the YJs opened up the second game with four runs in the first which is al Rilee Baughan (Warsaw, Va. / Rappahannock) needed in a two-hit 5-0 shutout.

Baughan had quite the day as she went a combined 5-for-7 with seven RBIs and five runs scored in leading the Lemon and Black to a sweep of the WildCats. In the opening game she was 4-for-5 alone and a home run shy of the cycle.

The Mustangs kept close with Lebanon Valley at the beginning of the opener. Stevenson trailed by a 2-1 count after four, but the visitors scored multiple times in the final three frames. The Mustangs got on the board early in the second game with all three runs in the first, but Lebanon Valley chipped away and scored in four of the final five innings for the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
- The long ball has been one of many strengths for the Yellow Jackets this season. They are 15th nationally with 14 home runs on the season. Kayla Davis (Fr., Powhatan, Va. /Powhatan) leads the way for the YJs with four on the year. That number ranks third in the ODAC and No. 32 in the nation.
- On the opposite end, one of the top pitchers so far this year has been Gracie Ellis (Fr., New Kent, Va. / New Kent). The freshman has had quite the debut with 102 strikeouts so far, good for fifth in the nation and first in the ODAC. Her 10.7 strikeouts per seven innings is No. 19 nationally. Ellis' ERA currently stands at 1.55 which is the best in the ODAC.
- The team's WHIP of 1.04 currently stands No. 17 nationally and No. 1 in the ODAC.
- R-MC has hit a total of 10 sacrifice flies this season which ranks seventh nationally.
- The team's overall ERA of 1.81 leads the ODAC and is No. 21 nationally.
- In her last five games, Baughan has gone 10-for-16 with three walks. She has hit safely in all but two games this season.
