6

Virginia Union University's softball team finished the 2022 CIAA Softball Round-Up in Raleigh, N.C., with a 3-3 record, marking the first time a Lady Panther softball team has won three round-up games since 2018.

VUU's Nevaeh Johnson slugged two home runs while pitcher Ericka Tiscareno struck out 19 batters in three games.

VUU defeated Livingstone College 5-0 and Saint Augustine's University 20-0 on Friday, March 25 and then defeated Johnson C. Smith University 5-2 on Saturday, March 26.

VUU lost to Winston-Salem State University 3-0, Claflin University 3-0 and Fayetteville State University 4-3 during the round-up.

Against Claflin, the Lady Panthers had the tying run at the plate before the inning ended.

Virginia Union led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning against Fayetteville State, but the Broncos pushed two runs across with two outs to come away with the win.

"The round-up showed us where we are as far as ability and mindset in the CIAA," said VUU Head Softball Coach Fred Burroughs.

Virginia Union now returns home to face Bluefield State College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, at Panther Park in Richmond, Va.
