VCU BASEBALL HEADS TO CHAPEL HILL REGIONAL

49

VCU Baseball will play in the Chapel Hill Regional, the NCAA selection committee announced Monday afternoon. The Rams' first game is Friday, June 3 against Georgia at 7 p.m.

VCU earned the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after capturing its second straight A-10 conference championship. It was the Rams' third A-10 title since joining the league in 2013, and eighth conference tournament crown overall. VCU will be making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Rams have won 15 straight games, 23 of their last 26 contests, and are 37-10 since March 8. VCU won all four games at the A-10 Championship in Davidson, N.C., from May 24-28, including a 10-7 triumph over Richmond in the title game. Redshirt sophomore first baseman Tyler Locklear was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after hitting .818 with three home runs.

VCU holds a 40-18 record, the eighth consecutive full season with 34 or more wins for the Rams.

In 2021, VCU carried a program-record 22-game win streak to a 2-seed at the Starkville Regional, beating Campbell 19-4 before falling to the eventual national champion, Mississippi State. The Rams will serve as the 3-seed for this year's Chapel Hill Regional.

North Carolina, the host, and Hofstra make up the rest of the double-elimination regional bracket. The Tar Heels won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, while the Pride are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Colonial Athletic Association. The Bulldogs, VCU's Friday opponent, hold a 35-21 record with a 15-15 mark in SEC play.

Friday's game against Georgia from Chapel Hill, N.C., will be streamed on ESPN+.
