Virginia Union University's Head Football Coach and Associate Athletic Director Dr. Alvin Parker along with VUU Special Teams Coordinator Diego Ryland have been named 2022 Rising Stars by FootballScoop.
The inaugural FootballScoop Minority Watch List for the 2022-23 football season included such names as Deion Sanders, Marcus Freeman, Charles Huff and myriad other rising coach stars now in vastly different positions.
There were submissions for nearly 400 different coaches and football personnel, not to mention more than 600 digital nominations and Twitter direct messages, emails, phone calls and more before the list was finalized.
In the end, some 125 football professionals gained selection to the 2022 iteration and roughly 250 coaches and personnel garnered FootballScoop 2022 Minority Watch List/Rising Star Honorable Mention.
"To be recognized as a rising star in the industry is definitely a great honor," said Parker. "I feel like we have an entire staff of rising stars, but I definitely want to thank FootballScoop for spotlighting myself and and Special Teams Coordinator Diego Ryland. This recognition is awesome for our program and we are looking forward to the 2022 season."
Virginia Union will kick off the 2022 football season when the Panthers meet the Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, at Willie Lanier Field at Hovey Stadium in Richmond, Va.
