VUU to Play in Folds of Honor Collegiate Tournament

VUU to Play in Folds of Honor Collegiate Tournament

The Virginia Union University golf team will travel to Grand Haven, Mich., to play in the Folds of Honor Golf Tournament on September 24th, 2022. The inaugural tournament will be held September 26-28, 2022, and feature 18 schools: Air Force, Arizona, Army, Central Michigan, Clemson, Eastern Michigan, Florida State, Grand Valley State, Illinois, Kansas, Liberty, Michigan State, Navy, NC State, Oregon State, Texas Southern, UCLA, and Virginia Union. Annually, the tournament will feature two HBCU programs. This reflects the 41-percent of Folds of Honor recipients that are minorities and the GCAA and Black Golf Coaches Association of America partnership to help grow opportunities for HBCU and black college golf.

The Folds of Honor Collegiate Tournament will be contested at The American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Michigan. American Dunes Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course that is a tribute to the military and commemorates the birthplace of Folds of Honor. The facility, which is located a few hundred yards from the east shore of Lake Michigan, is a dunes-like course, utilizing the dramatic local topography and sand base that covers the property. The course is a par 72 that measures 7,213 yards and has rolling and generous fairways.

"We have continued to have a lot of firsts for the VUU Golf Team," said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble. "This honor is larger than that, this is also recognition for Virginia Union University. Again, we are honored to be selected to play in this inaugural tournament. One of the selection criteria was that of academics and as the 2020-21 & 2021-22 HBCU Academic National Champions we were selected to play in the Folds of Honor Tournament. I continue to be very proud of the accomplishments of our VUU Golf Team on and off the golf course."
