Women's Tennis Tops Hollins and Meredith for Perfect Saturday
The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team played a perfect Saturday, topping Hollins and Meredith in two different matches during the fall season. The Yellow Jackets opened the morning with a 7-2 win over Hollins before ending the evening with a 9-0 sweep of Meredith.
Randolph-Macon started strong against Hollins in the morning session, taking two of the three doubles points as Adele Huffman and Thurman took care of an 8-1 result at No. 2 doubles while Katie Sarnowski and Becky Villeda matched the 8-1 result on the third doubles court.
Catherine Mowry was the first to finish in singles play, making it 3-1 in favor of Randolph-Macon right before Sarnowski won at the sixth singles flight to continue the scoring. Huffman was the next to finish and Thurman added a result to turn the advantage to 6-1 to clinch the match. Becky Villeda played through at the fifth singles flight to add a 7th point.
In the evening cap, the Yellow Jackets cruised to make it a perfect three-of-three in doubles points as Mowry and Thurman took care of business at No. 1 doubles and Huffman and Holderman followed suit at the second doubles flight. Mowry, Huffman, Villeda and Sarnowski each picked up wins in their respective singles matches as Sarah Paige White and Mary Blair Sewald picked up forfeits to complete the sweep.
