Men's Basketball Announces 2022-23 Slate

Men's Basketball Announces 2022-23 Slate

Randolph-Macon men's basketball, the defending National Champions, and head coach Josh Merkel look to continue that success in the 2022-23 campaign.

"We are excited about the challenges of playing top competition night in and night out starting November 11 in Frederick, Md.," Merkel said. "We are thrilled to announce a second home tournament in addition to the Fink's Jewelers tournament after Christmas. The Suyes Yellow Jacket Classic allows us to bring in another three quality teams from different regions for some great games that our community will appreciate. The ODAC continues to be one of the best leagues in the country and requires our players to be at their best to give us a chance to compete."

The Yellow Jackets will open the season Nov. 5-6 at Hood's Tournament in Frederick, Md. For the second-straight season. R-MC faces Mary Baldwin on the first night and will meet either Hood or Goucher on the second night.

The home opener will have to wait one more contest, as the Yellow Jackets make the return trip to Mary Washington the following week to open as an early test for R-MC. Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Play comes next for the Yellow Jackets, as a clash with Hampden-Sydney as part of a Men's/Women's twinbill in Crenshaw Gym (Nov. 19) serves as the home opener before Randolph comes to town on Nov. 27.

Virginia Wesleyan serves as the first ODAC contest away from Ashland on Nov. 30 before a return trip to Ashland brings Washington and Lee to town to kick off December play. A quick turnaround ensues as R-MC then travels to Harrisonburg to take on Eastern Mennonite Dec. 7.

R-MC will play hosts to the first of two tournaments after nearly two weeks off December 19-20. The Yellow Jackets will meet Merchant Marine on Monday and either Mary Washington or Stockton the following day.

On Dec. 29-30, R-MC will host their Coaches Tournament. The Yellow Jackets will face Lancaster Bible on Thursday before meeting either Rowan or Maryville in the final day of the event.

To kick off 2022, R-MC will head to Hampden-Sydney on Jan. 4 to continue conference play. A two-game homestand includes Guilford on Jan. 7 and Christopher Newport Jan 11. The Captains represented the lone blemish on the Randolph-Macon schedule a season ago, as CNU beat the Yellow Jackets in overtime in the last meeting.

The Yellow Jackets will head to Lynchburg on Jan. 14 before returning to Ashland for a clash with Bridgewater Jan. 18. Randolph-Macon then travels to Roanoke Jan. 21 before a trip to Averett on the 25th. The Averett game marks the first clash between the two sides that stands as conference play, as Averett plays its first season in the ODAC. The month ends with Ferrum coming to Ashland for a 2:00 p.m. tip on Jan 28.

R-MC will begin February with a home affair with Shenandoah on the first and a road trip to Bridgewater on the fourth. The Yellow Jackets will host Averett (Feb. 8) and Roanoke (Feb. 11) before the regular season ends with a trip to Guilford on Feb. 18.

The ODAC Tournament will be held Feb. 20-26, with the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals all returning to Salem.
