R-MC Baseball Readies for Fall Practice

R-MC Baseball Readies for Fall Practice

The Randolph-Macon baseball team will begin official fall team workouts during the week of Oct. 9 ahead of the 2023 season.

On Oct. 12, the Diamond Jackets will host Wilson/DeMarini/Louisville Slugger Demo Day. The R-MC players will have a chance to practice with and demo equipment, including gloves and bats, ahead of the 2023 season. Wilson is an official sponsor of the ODAC and R-MC Baseball

During Homecoming weekend Oct. 14-16, in addition to the Saturday home football contest, the Diamond Jackets will compete in multiple intrasquad competitions Friday and Sunday.

On Oct. 24, R-MC will participate in an MLB Scouting Combine and exhibition game vs. VCU. The Diamond Jackets and the two-time defending A-10 champions will come together for one night at The Diamond in downtown Richmond for workouts and a controlled game in front of several MLB organizations. R-MC currently has four players in the professional ranks - more than any program in the ODAC. In 18 years under Ray Hedrick, eight players have signed professional contracts. Four have played with affiliated organizations, including Nick Roth (Orioles AA) and Colin Selby (Pirates AAA).  Four additional have played independent baseball, most recently Cody Thompson and Reece Yeargain.

The Kathryn Stephens Classic Weekend will be held Nov. 4-6. In honor of the late Kathryn Stephens, wife of Coach Hugh Stephens, the Diamond Jackets will wrap up the non-traditional season with a best-of-three intrasquad series. Exact game dates and times will be announced closer to the event.

The Diamond Jackets are scheduled to open the 2023 season with a three-game home series against Pitt-Bradford on Feb. 18-19.
