Offense Rolls for No. 16 R-MC Football at SU

Junior Drew Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) threw for 297 yards and four touchdowns and senior David Wallis (Cedar Point, N.C./Croatan) had seven catches for 162 yards and four scores as No. 16 Randolph-Macon at Shenandoah on Saturday afternoon in ODAC action.

How it Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets took the opening kickoff and drove to the SU 26 but were stopped on fourth down. The defense forced a Hornet punt and R-MC took over on its own 39. Facing 3rd and 20 from the SU 32, Campanale hit Wallis on a TD pass to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead with 3:35 left in the first period.
  • SU moved to the RM 17, but junior Jaden Ferriera (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) snagged a deflected pass in the end zone for an interception. The Yellow Jackets drove to the SU 2, but an interception gave the ball back to the home team. Following a punt, Campanale capped a four-play drive with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Wallis to make it 14-0 with 6:42 remaining in the second quarter.
  • After another Hornet punt, R-MC went 74 yards in 12 plays. Campanale found senior Joey Hunt (Olney, Md./Sherwood) in the end zone from seven yards out with 38 seconds left. The extra point was missed as the Yellow Jackets led 20-0 at the half.
  • The Hornets scored on their first possession of the third period to make it 20-7. R-MC took the ball to the SU 1 but was stopped on downs.
  • Following a Hornet punt, Campanale ended a 70-yard drive with a three-yard TD run to give the Yellow Jackets a 28-7 lead with 12:29 remaining in the final period.
  • SU tallied a touchdown quickly to make it 28-14 with 10:57 left. R-MC used 5:27 to go 64 yards in 10 plays, as Campanale hit Wallis with an 11-yard scoring toss as the advantage grew to 35-14 with 5:24 remaining.
  • The Hornets added a touchdown with 3:17 left to make the final 35-21.
By The Numbers:

  • R-MC amassed 539 yards of total offense, with 297 through the air and 242 on the ground. It was the largest amount of total offense for the Yellow Jackets this season and the third time they collected more than 500 yards of offense.
  • Campanale, the reigning ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, went 19 of 26 for 297 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
  • Wallis had seven catches for 162 yards and three scores. Hunt had five receptions for 58 yards and one TD.
  • Junior Kwesi Clarke (Reigelwood, N.C./North Brunswick) rushed 23 times for 132 yards.

    Senior Nick Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) carried 18 times for 93 yards.

  • Junior Torryn Carey-Jarrell (Richmond, Va./Henrico) paced the defense with eight tackles.
  • R-MC held the ball for 37:58 compared to 22:02 for SU. It was the highest TOP total this season. The Yellow Jackets came into the game ranked eighth nationally in time of possession at 34:14.
For The Record:

  • The R-MC offense was held to 35 points, its lowest point total of the season. The Yellow Jackets scored at least 40 points in each of their first six contests.
  • The Yellow Jackets allowed 21 points, the most by an opponent this season.
