VUU Moves to 10-1 with Overtime Win Against WSSU
Virginia Union University overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to take a 70-67 overtime win against Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, December 17, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
VUU's Raemaad Wright sank two free throws with 11 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, and then sank two more free throws with seven seconds left in the overtime period to seal the win.
Virginia Union's Robert Osborne led the Panther scoring with 18 points while Wright finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds.
VUU's Keleaf Tate and Mahzi Thames scored 14 points apiece in the win.
"This was a good road win against a very good Winston-Salem State team" said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler. "Winston-Salem is one of the toughest places to play and I thought our guys fought hard the entire game, and I can't say enough about Robbie Osborne and Raemaad Wright efforts rebounding the basketball today. We needed a spark coming off the bench and Mahzi Thames came in and gave us some much-needed scoring along with Keleaf Tate hitting some big shots throughout the game to help us get the win in overtime."
The win raised Virginia Union to 10-1 on the season and 1-0 in CIAA play.
VUU now travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Livingstone College at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 19.
